Personal boundaries are essentially the lines we draw around ourselves that indicate what is and is not acceptable to us. They set the basic guidelines of how we want to be treated and respected. By setting boundaries, we are telling the people in our lives what we need in order to feel comfortable and safe.

We often hear about the importance of setting boundaries in our relationships, but what exactly are personal boundaries?

Put simply, personal boundaries are the guidelines we set to determine how we want to be treated and respected.

They set the basic standards for how we expect others to interact with us.

Personal boundaries are basically our way of communicating to others what we will and will not tolerate in terms of their behavior towards us.

By setting clear boundaries, we can protect ourselves from being taken advantage of, manipulated, or otherwise treated in ways that are not acceptable to us.
